DETROIT -- Just when it looked like the Tigers were starting to get healthy, another injury struck Saturday night.
Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordonez left in the third inning of Saturday's game against the Rockies after suffering a spasm in his right oblique and lat muscle. The injury occurred when he chased down a Troy Tulowitzki double over his head. He will receive further examination by the Tigers' training staff before Sunday afternoon's series finale.
That makes three oblique injuries this month for the Tigers. Designated hitter Gary Sheffield just came off the disabled list after a right oblique pull, and utility man Brandon Inge went on the 15-day DL on Monday with a similar injury.
Ryan Raburn took Ordonez's spot in right field and in the No. 4 spot.
The injury comes at a strange time. Tigers manager Jim Leyland had planned on giving Ordonez a day off Sunday to rest him for next week's series against red-hot Minnesota.
Last year's American League runner-up for the MVP Award and league batting champion, Ordonez has buoyed an inconsistent Detroit offense this season. He came into Saturday's game batting .304 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs.

Oh of course I will show you This is the first time that we went out there this season and it was awesome. Todays game was so fun, all of the guys were in such good moods.

On the morning after they evened their record at .500 for the first time since Opening Day, the Tigers announced some of this season's most sobering news: Magglio Ordoņez, their cleanup hitter and the defending American League batting champion, is headed to the disabled list.
Ordoņez left Saturday's game with what the team described as a spasm in the muscles along his right side. But the injury was more severe than that.
Ordoņez pulled an oblique muscle the same injury that has forced Gary Sheffield and Brandon Inge to the disabled list in recent weeks. Even prior to the announcement, Ordoņez conceded the likelihood that he would be placed on the D.L.
"We don't want to take a chance," he said.
He said he had difficulty moving when he woke up this morning. When asked how he felt, he replied, "Not so good."
Matt Joyce was called up from Triple-A Toledo to take Ordoņez's roster spot. He has been playing rightfield Ordoņez's position and brings the added benefit of batting left-handed in a lineup dominated by right-handed hitters.
Ordoņez said he expects to remain in Detroit to rehabilitate the injury while the team travels to Minnesota and Seattle for a seven-game road trip. He is batting .307 this season with 12 home runs and a team-leading 50 RBIs.

On Sunday morning, not long before the Tigers nudged their record above .500 for the first time this season, star rightfielder Magglio Ordoņez arrived at Comerica Park.
He was asked how he felt, after leaving Saturday's game with what later proved to be a pulled right oblique muscle. His three-word response was telling.
"Not so good," he said.
That assessment did not change. By the time Sunday's game began, Ordoņez was on the 15-day disabled list. He is not eligible to rejoin the active roster until July 14 -- which happens to be the first day of the All-Star break.
So, it is certain that the defending American League batting champion will miss the rest of the first half. His earliest return would be July 17 in Baltimore. Head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said he's hopeful Ordoņez will be ready by then.
Ordoņez is the third Detroit player to miss time this year because of oblique injuries. Gary Sheffield was out of the Tigers' lineup for nearly a month, and Brandon Inge has been on the disabled list for less than a week.
Ordoņez is optimistic that he will miss only the required 15 days, but Rand acknowledged that oblique injuries can be "very tricky," and the team is sure to proceed cautiously.
"We don't want to take a chance," Ordoņez said.

"Can you replace Magglio, a .360 hitter?" Tigers manager Jim Leyland asked. "No, you can't. If you think you can, you're crazy. You try to pick and choose a little bit, fool with it a little bit, and hopefully someone will get hot for a period of time."
Miguel Cabrera batted fourth on Sunday, and Leyland indicated that he would continue doing so during Ordoņez's absence. Leyland can insert several players in rightfield, including Joyce, Ryan Raburn, Marcus Thames and Clete Thomas, who started there Sunday.
Ordoņez said he injured the oblique muscle when he turned to pursue a foul ball in the first inning of Saturday's game. He left the game after moving awkwardly on Troy Tulowitzki's leadoff double in the third.

| Omg. I was at guitar lessons today, actually.. I was waiting to go in to lessons. And a guy walked in and started looking at guitar books. I kind of ignored him at first...but then something about him looked familiar.
He had shoulder length black, curly hair. He was wearing a tigers hat. His skin was the same color as maggs. It wasn't maggs, of course, but it looked a lot like him. I couldn't help but stare at him until my teacher came out.
