DETROIT -- Just when it looked like the Tigers were starting to get healthy, another injury struck Saturday night.
Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordonez left in the third inning of Saturday's game against the Rockies after suffering a spasm in his right oblique and lat muscle. The injury occurred when he chased down a Troy Tulowitzki double over his head. He will receive further examination by the Tigers' training staff before Sunday afternoon's series finale.

That makes three oblique injuries this month for the Tigers. Designated hitter Gary Sheffield just came off the disabled list after a right oblique pull, and utility man Brandon Inge went on the 15-day DL on Monday with a similar injury.

Ryan Raburn took Ordonez's spot in right field and in the No. 4 spot.

The injury comes at a strange time. Tigers manager Jim Leyland had planned on giving Ordonez a day off Sunday to rest him for next week's series against red-hot Minnesota.

Last year's American League runner-up for the MVP Award and league batting champion, Ordonez has buoyed an inconsistent Detroit offense this season. He came into Saturday's game batting .304 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs.

Maggs was having trouble before he took the field in the third inning. He kept stretching on the bench, showing he was not feeling right before he even took the field. Get him to a chiropractor, they can normally adjust the back quickly. (comes from personal experience!)

Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordonez left the game against the Colorado Rockies early in the third inning Saturday night just after Troy Tulowitzki doubled over his head in right field. Ordonez, who ran off the field, had a spasm in the right oblique and latissimus dorsi muscle and will be further evaluated Sunday.

The latissimus dorsi -- or lat as it frequently is referred to -- is the large flat muscle in the back that extends from just under the armpit to the lumbar area. The oblique is a lateral abdominal muscle.

Ordonez was replaced by Ryan Raburn.

Put him on the DL and bring up Joyce! Magglio hasn't been all to good in the field lately.

Maggs should be ok in a day or 2...especially with Ibuprofen or muscle relaxers. I have had the same pulled muscle before, and was back to 100% in less than a week. I hope his isn't nearly as bad as mine was..it hurts like hell at 1st! Get Well, Maggs!!

Can't sleep. I'm tired as hell....but my desktop computer caught a virus....and I can't go to sleep with a sick computer...lol It drives me nuts! I've been working on it for 3 days now! I'm about ready to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows just to get rid of it! puke

Sure is! He has been pressing lately, probably feels he has to live up to last seasons highs! That can cause a lot of physical and mental stress. A break may help him relax again.

I just saw the vid clip of the catch he attempted in the 4th or 3rd from last night....ouch...that was a weird over the shoulder thing and then while running...that did it....

Probably was the straw...it's been bothering him for at least 3 weeks now.
Remember when he first signed he was stricken with that sports hernia and out for most of the 2005 season. It's written into his contract that 25 days on the DL and he's in trouble...

Well, rest may be good. In the Mets case, it was. They gave David Wright a few days of rest cuz he was slumping and played every single game this season. Came back with 2 HR in a game. Lets hope same goes for Maggs.

DETROIT -- The Tigers placed star outfielder Magglio Ordonez on the 15-day disabled list Sunday afternoon following a spasm suffered in his right oblique and lat muscle the night before.
Ordonez left Saturday's win over the Rockies in the third inning holding his side after chasing down a Troy Tulowitzki double over his head. He threw the ball back into the infield and then called for the team trainer. Ordonez, who jogged off the field, said after the game that he felt fine.

Ordonez underwent an examination by the team training staff Sunday morning at Comerica Park. He told reporters the pain increased overnight.

That makes three oblique injuries this month for the Tigers. Designated hitter Gary Sheffield just came off the disabled list after a left oblique pull, and utility man Brandon Inge went on the 15-day DL on Tuesday with a similar injury.

To fill Ordonez's roster spot, the Tigers recalled outfielder Matt Joyce from Triple-A Toledo. Joyce makes his second stint with the Tigers this season. He played 18 games in May, batting .200 with five home runs and 10 RBIs. A fine defensive outfielder, Joyce has been one of Toledo's best power hitters over the last few weeks.
