| Season in Preview A lot can change by Opening Day, but as 2007 becomes 2008, this is who is projected to take the field for the Indians:
| | CF | Grady Sizemore | | 2B | Asdrubal Cabrera | | DH | Travis Hafner | | C | Victor Martinez | | 1B | Ryan Garko | | SS | Jhonny Peralta | | LF | David Dellucci | | RF | Franklin Gutierrez | | 3B | Casey Blake | | SP | C.C. Sabathia | | SP | Fausto Carmona | | SP | Jake Westbrook | | SP | Paul Byrd | | SP | Aaron Laffey | | CL | Joe Borowski |
Grading on a curve: As expected, the Indians haven't given us many transactions to grade this winter. With the bulk of the lineup already under contractual control, this figured to be a quiet offseason. Give the Tribe credit for being proactive on the bullpen front with the signing of Kobayashi and mark them down for one of the league's stronger pitching staffs with Sabathia, Carmona, Jake Westbrook and Paul Byrd all returning and Aaron Laffey, Jeremy Sowers and Cliff Lee set to compete for the fifth rotation spot. Still, the Indians could afford to add a run-producing bat in the corner outfield, and the Tigers' recent acquisitions of Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis prove repeating in the Central will be no easy task. With all this information at hand, give the Indians a 5 out of 10 on the winter grading scale, for now, though locking up Sabathia would boost that rating considerably. Arrivals: RHP Masahide Kobayashi, IF Jamey Carroll
Departures: LF Kenny Lofton, RF Trot Nixon, IF Chris Gomez
The Road Ahead: The Indians hope to have some resolution to the Sabathia talks -- positively or negatively -- by the time they report to Spring Training on Feb. 14. In the meantime, it's still possible they could use their starting pitching depth to make a deal that affects the '08 club. |

| Him too! It takes us a few innings to figure him out, but we catch on! _________________ There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and baseball. The only problem - once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit. ~Al Gallagher, 1971 |

Grady Sizemore has never appeared in a game in Rightfield. He has appeared twice as a DH (once in '06 and once in '07).
