Whitecaps Announce 2009 Ticket On-sale Dates

October 24th, 2008

Whitecaps Announce 2009 Ticket On-sale Dates

Comstock Park, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps announced today their 2009 season ticket packages, which include a special bonus for full season ticket holders and a new “Tigers Friday 6 Pack” plan built around what are expected to be six of the most popular dates on the schedule. Also announced today are individual ticket prices for the 2009 season.

SEASON TICKETS

If enjoying Whitecaps baseball at all 70 home games isn’t enough to get fans excited about purchasing full season tickets, the Whitecaps have an exciting new perk to sweeten the deal. Those who purchase four or more full season tickets will receive a free luxury suite rental ($650 value) for a game in April or May. The luxury suites include 20 tickets and offer climate-controlled indoor viewing as well as balconies for the best view of the game. Never before have full season ticket holders been offered such an exclusive perk.

Also new for the 2009 season is a 6-game mini plan that includes all six Friday games in June, July and August; those Fridays are named “Tiger Fridays” and will feature a former Tigers player who will make an appearance at the game and sign autographs for fans. Tigers bobblehead dolls or other Tigers-related giveaway items will be included as part of the Tigers Friday 6 Pack season ticket mini plan - no need to stand in line for the popular giveaways since they’re guaranteed as part of this plan. Tigers players appearing at Fifth Third Ballpark are yet to be determined.

Season tickets are also available in 35-game. 10-game and 5-game mini plans and are on sale now. Current season ticket holders have until December 15 to renew their season ticket locations; after that date, new season ticket holders may select their seat location.

GROUP TICKETS

Groups of 20 or more may reserve tickets for any 2009 game beginning on November 20. Group tickets are available in the box, reserved and lawn sections as well as in any of the seven private party locations: the Pepsi Stadium Club, Miller Lite House Deck, Right Field Deck, Superior’s Landing, Centennial Securities Dream Deck or either of the two Altogas Barbeque Decks. Groups may also reserve luxury suites, which are available in two sizes and can hold groups of 20 to 40 people.

INDIVIDUAL TICKETS
Individual tickets for the 2009 season will go on sale January 19th. The new premium seats behind home plate, announced earlier this week, will cost $13 per ticket. These seats are located in sections 115, 117 and 119 and feature 3″ thick padded upholstered seats. New state-of-the-art backstop netting will allow for better game viewing with less obstructions, transforming the home plate box seat area into the best seats in the ballpark. Undated tickets will go on sale in early December for those looking for holiday gifts.

The ticket price for the remainder of the box seats is $11, while the reserved seats are $9.50; prices are being raised by $1 in each of these two areas. The lawn seat pricing has held steady for the past seven years and remains at just $5.

Whitecaps Vice President of Sales Steve McCarthy emphasized that the low $5 price point for lawn seats allows West Michigan Whitecaps games to remain an extremely affordable entertainment value.

“We’ve always been sensitive and conservative with any price increase, in keeping with the goal of offering affordable family entertainment,” McCarthy said. “It’s very important to our organization that fans can still get in to see a ballgame for $5.
That ticket started at $3 15 years ago and we’ve been able to keep the price increases to a minimum.

“The fact that our average attendance increased in 2008 proves that families and corporations have again found Whitecaps baseball as an affordable option despite the many economic challenges. That’s
important to us.”

Whitecaps manager will return in 2009

by Gary Bond | The Grand Rapids Press
Tuesday December 16, 2008, 10:00 AM

COMSTOCK PARK -- Joe DePastino called the West Michigan Whitecaps' managerial job one of the best in all of minor league baseball.

Good thing DePastino feels that way. The Detroit Tigers announced today he will return for a second season as the manager of the Whitecaps, the Tigers' low-Class A minor league affiliate.

DePastino, 35, guided West Michigan to 72-65 overall record and a spot in the Midwest League playoffs in 2008, in his first season as a professional manager.

The Whitecaps, who qualified for the Midwest League playoffs after finishing in second place in the MWL East Division first half, were eliminated from the best-of-three series after losing in the first round to the South Bend (Ind.) Silver Hawks 2-1.

West Michigan, which has captured five Midwest League MWL championships in 15 seasons, had won the 2006 and 2007 titles and hoped to become only the third organization to win three in a row. Appleton, Wisconsin (now called the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) accomplished the feat in 1982, '83 and '84.

"You can't ask for a better place to manage," DePastino said of West Michigan. "Fifth Third Ballpark is one of the best parks in minor league baseball, the Whitecaps' front office is great and there's strong fan support.

"I also had a great bunch of kids playing for me, which helped me out, and I'll know more what to expect in my second season." DePastino added.

The Whitecaps finished the '08 season with the second-best team ERA earn-run-average (3.29) and the fifth-best team batting average (.257).

Hitting coach Benny Distefano will return to the Whitecaps for his third season and pitching coach Mark Johnson will be back for his second.

The Tigers announced Larry Parrish will return as manager of their Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens. Tom Brookens will be back with their Double-A affiliate Erie (Pa.) SeaWolves, Andy Barkett returns to their high-Class A affiliate Lakeland (Fla.) Flying Tigers, and Ryan Newman will work with their rookie league affiliate, the Oneonta (N.Y.) Tigers.

The Whitecaps will open the '09 season at Fifth Third Ballpark on April 9 against the Silver Hawks.
