    From The Detroit News
    7/22/08

    Who's hot

    Brent Clevlen, outfielder, Toledo (AAA):
Batting .333 in his last 10 games with three home runs and is at .302 on the season with 17 homers.

    Mike Hessman, third base, Toledo:
Unbelievable numbers for a guy locked in at Triple A: 30 homers and 52 extra-base hits, good for a .596 slugging percentage.

    Blaine Neal, reliever, Toledo:

A one-time reliever for Florida, Boston, San Diego and Colorado has come back beautifully from last year's elbow surgery. The Tigers signed him as a minor-league free agent and Neal has been terrific as the Mud Hens' closer: in his last 11 outings, the right-hander has a 0.77 ERA and six saves and has been invited to join the U.S. Olympic Baseball Team.

    Ian Ostlund, reliever, Toledo:

Same story for a 29-year-old left-handed Tigers draft pick (34th round, 2001, Virginia Tech) -- no runs allowed in his last six games. In 8 2/3 innings, Ostlund has 12 strikeouts.

Wilkin Ramirez and Jeff Frazier, outfielders, Erie (AA):

Ramirez is hitting .354 with five home runs spanning his last five games. Frazier on the season is batting .304.

    Ryan Roberson, first base, Erie:

A 6-foot-6 right-handed batter who was a 30th-round pick in 2005 out of George Washington University and has been titanic in his last 39 games: .361, eight home runs, 12 doubles, one triple and 37 RBIs.

    Casey Fien, reliever, Erie:

In his last 18 games, the right-hander, who got into a couple of spring games for the Tigers, has a 2.04 ERA, nine saves, and 21 strikeouts.

    James Skelton, catcher, Lakeland (A):

Batting .433 in his last 21 games.

Alex Avila, catcher, West Michigan (A):

Tigers' fifth-round pick has had a terrific debut. Avila is batting .339 in 16 games in July.

    Alfredo Figaro, right-hander, West Michigan:

Figaro leads the Midwest League with 12 victories and a 1.83 ERA.

    Jon Kibler, left-hander, West Michigan:

In his last five starts, Kibler, a former Michigan State pitcher, is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA. He is second in the league in ERA at 1.92.

Who's not

Yorman Bazardo, right-hander, Toledo:
3-4 with a 6.79 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Andrew Kown, right-hander, Erie:
Been a tough year for a fifth-round choice (2004, Georgia Tech): 5-9 record with a 5.38 ERA.

Thats a fancy question.
I say we play him at 3rd, and let Los DH.
