The Erie SeaWolves are expected to announce Wednesday afternoon that they have extended their player development agreement with the Tigers through the 2010 season.

Erie, Pa., has been Detroit’s affiliate in the Double-A Eastern League since 2001. Many of the organization’s best young players have spent time there, including Curtis Granderson, Justin Verlander and Joel Zumaya.

At different times last year, the team included outfielder Cameron Maybin and left-hander Andrew Miller, who were traded last month to the Florida Marlins in the deal that brought Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit.

A news conference has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Erie to make the announcement. The club is also expected to announce an extension of its lease on Jerry Uht Park with the Erie County Convention Center Authority.
