| Tigers prospect Gerbe to have shoulder surgery Friday
Jeff Gerbe, the Shelby Township native who was invited to the Tigers' big-league camp this year, is scheduled to have arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Friday in Detroit.
Gerbe, a right-handed pitcher, is expected to miss the entire 2008 season.
He said during a telephone interview this afternoon that he hopes to be ready for spring training next year.
"I'm just bummed," he said. "I was throwing very well this spring, even with the injury. It's frustrating."
Gerbe has been experiencing pain in his right shoulder, off and on, since last fall, but he's optimistic about his chances for a recovery.
