Some fast facts on new outfielder Clete Thomas, as provided by Thomas:

• He played in Comerica Park in a minor league game with the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps.

• In Little League, he was an infielder and pitcher. In high school, he was an outfielder and closer. From college (Auburn) onward, he has been an outfielder.

• He feels comfortable at all three outfield positions.

• Of all the people he told Friday night and Saturday morning that he'd made the team, he said the one with the most interesting reaction was his wife, Susie.

"She got all excited," Thomas said. "She didn't believe me at first. She was yelling. I lost it again when she started yelling. So it was pretty awesome."

Thomas learned from Leyland after Friday night's game that he'd gotten the open spot for a reserve player.
