I have only seen 2 films released in 2008 and neither of them received any nominations so I don't know what to cheer for.

Gran Torino didn't get a single nomination. I'm pretty surprised by that.

Is that the Clint Eastwood one? I want to see it. It was filmed in Michigan.

I don't even know what most of the best picture nominees are about ashamed

For those that don't know, Milk is not about a glass of milk.

I heard Benjamin Button is a lot like Forest Gump. But I haven't even seen any trailers on that movie, so I wouldn't know.

Frost/Nixon is about David Frost and Richard Nixon.

Darn, I thought Milk was about milk. ashamed

I think in Benjamin Button he ages backwards or something. I hope that one doesn't win Best Picture. I'm also rooting against Slumdog Millionaire for some reason. I hope The Reader loses because it has the word "read" in the title and I'm not really a fan of reading. Then again I doubt the movie is about a guy who reads.

The other two movies are political so they might as well win since 2008 was an election year. Furthermore, the Milk movie is about a Democrat whereas Nixon is a Republican. Since the Democrats won in 2008 I hope Milk wins best picture despite the fact I don't really know what it's about and it might be terrible.

I have seen The Reader yesterday. Excellent movie and pretty impressive Kate Winslet! She really would deserve the Oscar. To the jury: please keep in mind, Kate Winselt is also absolutely brilliant in Revolutionary Road!

Chaneling is highly recommended too btw. I have seen this a couple of weeks ago. Go and check it out. Great storyline and great Angelina Jolie!

What's wrong with his politics?

Is he too conservative? I only know a few of his viewpoints so maybe the rest of them aren't as left as I was assuming.

So where's the problem?

Is he, despite his extremely left-wingedness, still too far right

I have no problem with Sean Penn, I just don't always agree with him, on his speech at the Oscars I did though.

His speech seemed like it mostly copied the screenwriter's speech from that same film. The only difference was Sean Penn didn't get to say "I'd like to thank my mom for not disowning me even though everyone told her to". They were both good though. Might as well throw something into a speech because the standard "I'd like to thank X, Y, and Z BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! " gets boring fast.
