| Jack Lemmon, Ricky Nelson.
The basis for this movie was from the real life USS Echo which was used as a supply ship in the navy in 1942-1944. A short-lived tv series of the same name was also created after this movie was out.
The plot was pretty simple to follow. A top secret mission to take a ship to waters patrolled by a Japanese Fleet. Jack Lemmon must take control of this ship full of inexperienced sailors which makes for some comedic moments. It gets pretty dramatic at the end. Jack Lemmon does a really good job acting and so does Ricky Nelson, surprisingly. Ricky Nelson is also a very successful singer during this time and shows off this talent in the movie during a scene.
Overall, it was just an ok movie. Nothing spectacular; if your a Jack Lemmon fan it might be worth watching.

I liked The Apartment so I picked the next Jack Lemmon movie TCM showed. This movie won. IMDB gives this a 6.1/10 score. _________________
