I don't listen to this, but brob and I (mostly me) got to thinking about really old music. We (or more technically me) got to wondering what is the oldest #1 song where the artist is still alive. Here's the answer:

The weeks of October 9, and October 16, 1948 "A Tree in the Meadow" by Margaret Whiting (b. 7/22/1924) was #1. She is still alive. Here is the oldest #1 song by a living artist:

This video is rather worthless. If someone has a better example of this song it'd be much appreciated! I mean, this video doesn't even have lyrics!

Here's the lyrics in case you're wondering:

The oldest #1 song by a MALE artist who is still living:

For 4 weeks in September, 1949 Vic Damone's (b. 6/12/1928) "You're Breaking My Heart" was #1

Are you making fun of 1940s music? I mean is sucks and all, but it sort of set the stage for early 50s music which also sucked but set the stage for early rock and roll (late 50s) which mostly sucked but had a few good songs and set the stage for early 1960s which was a little better but still sucked but set the stage for late mid- to late 60s music which was the best music ever which set the stage for early 70s music which was hit or mix which set the stage for mid- to late 70s music which was starting to suck again which set the stage for each additional half decade since which was worse than the one before it.

WOW! That was a long sentence! I think it's proper English, too! English isn't designed for long sentences like Spanish! In fact, there's a famous sentence in a famous Spanish book that is THREE PAGES long...ONE sentence!

So what's your favorite songs from the 1940s. It's a little before your time. Ask your mother - if she was in her 50s/60s when she gave birth to you that would be the music she grew up with.

Okay, ask her mother (assuming she was at least 30 when she gave birth to your mother).

I'd ask my mother's mom what she listened to but she's not the person to ask. I mean I was driving her somewhere and "Light My Fire" was playing. She said "I remember listening to this growing up". I asked if she meant as an adult and she said back in grade school. She was born in 1929 and DID NOT take until she was 40 to get out of grade school. The song came out in 1967. I told her it was The Doors and they're from the 60s. She said someone else must have done it then.

I'm not an expert on late 30s and early 40s music (the era she would've been in school) but I am almost certain NOBODY had music like "Light My Fire" back then! I mean 15 years later Elvis was obscene. Can you imagine what would happen if you went back to 1935 and played a Doors album?

Here's a song I've heard of....

1941 - Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy - The Andrews Sisters

Believe it or not, the lead singer of the Andrews Sisters, Patty Andrews, is still alive! She was born 2/16/1918. Her sisters died in 1967 and 1995.
