Off the top of my head, the Rolling Stones had to change "Let's spend the night together" to "let's spend some time together" when they performed the song on Ed Sullivan.

Ed Sullivan never forgave the Doors because they performed "Light My Fire" with "girl we couldn't get much higher" when they were supposed to say "girl we couldn't get much better". Morrison said he was nervous and forgot, but Sullivan was not happy at all - he wouldn't even shake their hands and backstage they were told they'd never be back despite the fact they were scheduled to do 7 more shows. They never were invited back. _________________ Coming soon: A better signature!

I think 1968 is correct. I'm pretty sure "Light My Fire" was 1968.
What a year! Tigers win the World Series and arguably my favorite song of all-time comes out. _________________ Coming soon: A better signature!

Didn't Jose Feliciano write "Light My Fire"?

The first Rock and Roll song?
1951 - "Rocket 88" - Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats
wiki wrote:
"Rocket 88" is a rhythm and blues song that was first recorded at Sam Phillips' recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee, on 3 March or 5 March 1951 (accounts differ). It is claimed by some, including Phillips — later to become owner of Sun Records, and pioneer rock and roll record producer — to be the "first rock and roll song".

I just noticed you posted this song. It's got it's fair share of strong points. I could go either way on this one. Haven't decided yet...

Doesn't seem right to have a 1950s thread without Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin (who I love dearly). _________________ "Contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker, it is not enough these days to simply question authority-- you have to speak with it too."
