Hopefully this thread will cause you to add to that list! Maybe by opening day, all that will be on your iPod will be 50s music!

I doubt that last part. I mean, my iPod is nowhere near full and it has 50s all the way to today (and "The Entertainer" that's even older than the 1950s!). I'll bet that above list will grow (although I doubt the songs I posted from 1950 will make the cut...I'm yet to listen to any of them; however). What year was "White Christmas"? I've never heard that (shame on me!) and don't like Christmas music that much, but I'll listen to it a little bit at Christmas time and that's the #1 selling Christmas song ever...

That's every #1 song from 1950 except one - the first #1 song in 1950 was Gene Autry's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". I'll go out on a limb and say that was #1 in 1949, too! EDIT: Yes, I am correct! Autry recorded it in 1949! That's for another thread. You can start the 1940s thread, but I'm still adjusting to the 1950s!

TRIVIA TIME:

Name the oldest #1 song...by a solo artist...where the singer is NOT dead (as of this moment). For extra fun, how about one female and one male song.

NOTE: Is this a trick question? Perhaps the song is from the 1940s or 1960s (or 1930s and earlier or 1970s and later).

HINT: In 1940 there were 3 songs that went #1. The third song, "Frenesi" is by Artie Shaw (1910-Dec. 30, 2004). Almost!

HINT: If you were thinking "Doctor, Lawyer, and Indian Chief" from Battle Creek's Betty Hutton (1946) she died 3/11/2007.

Nobody cares about my trivia question? I'm working hard on the answer.

Here's the answer, she's a female:
Spoiler:

What is the oldest #1 song by a male solo artist who is still alive?

Can you find a version of either one of those songs to post? I can't. I started a 1940s music thread because I know how much you love the stuff.

You know, you are allowed to start a 1960s music thread....

(or 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s....those last 3 aren't very good though).
