The Who - Behind Blue Eyes (1971)
Wiki wrote:
"Behind Blue Eyes" is a song written by Pete Townshend of The Who for his Lifehouse project. It first appeared on The Who's 1971 Who's Next album, along with a number of other remnants from the project.[1][2] The song is one of The Who's most well known recordings and has been covered by many artists, notably Limp Bizkit in their 2003 album Results May Vary.

Rod Stewart ( The Faces) - Mandolin Wind (1971)
Quote:
Lyrics:
When the rain came I thought you'd leave 'cause I knew how much you loved the sun But you chose to stay, stay and keep me warm through the coldest winter I've ever known If the mandolin wind couldn't change a thing then I know I love ya
Oh the snow fell without a break Buffalo died in the frozen fields you know Through the coldest winter in almost fourteen years I couldn't believe you kept a smile Now I can rest assured knowing that we've seen the worst And I know I love ya
Oh I never was good with romantic words so the next few lines come really hard Don't have much but what I've got is yours except of course my steel guitar Ha, 'cause I know you don't play but I'll teach you one day because I love ya
The coldest winter in almost fourteen years could never, never change your mind
And I love ya And I love ya Lordy I love ya

The Band - Up On Cripple Creek (Live-1970)
Quote:
UP ON CRIPPLE CREEK The Band The Band (1970)
When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go? Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico To Lake Charles, Louisiana, little Bessie, girl that I once knew She told me just to come on by, if there's anything she could do
Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one
Good luck had just stung me, to the race track I did go She bet on one horse to win and I bet on another to show The odds were in my favor, I had 'em five to one When that nag to win came around the track, sure enough she had won
Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one
I took up all of my winnings, and I gave my little Bessie half And she tore it up and threw it in my face, just for a laugh Now there's one thing in the whole wide world, I sure would like to see That's when that little love of mine, dips her doughnut in my tea
Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one
Now me and my mate were back at the shack, we had Spike Jones on the box She said, "I can't take the way he sings, but I love to hear him talk" Now that just gave my heart a throb, to the bottom of my feet And I swore and I took another pull, my Bessie can't be beat
Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one
Now there's a flood out in California and up north it's freezing cold And this living on the road is getting pretty old So I guess I'll call up my big mama, tell her I'll be rolling in But you know, deep down, I'm kind of tempted To go and see my Bessie again.
Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one

Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath (1971)
Lyrics:
In the shuffling madness Of the locomotive breath, Runs the all-time loser, Headlong to his death. He feels the piston scraping -- Steam breaking on his brow -- Old Charlie stole the handle and The train won't stop going -- No way to slow down. He sees his children jumping off At the stations -- one by one. His woman and his best friend -- In bed and having fun. He's crawling down the corridor On his hands and knees -- Old Charlie stole the handle and The train won't stop going -- No way to slow down. He hears the silence howling -- Catches angels as they fall. And the all-time winner Has got him by the balls. He picks up Gideon's Bible -- Open at page one -- God stole the handle and The train won't stop going -- No way to slow down.

A Pink Floyd song that doesn't suck
1979 - Another Brick in the Wall, Part II - Pink Floyd
There are 3 parts but this part is the famous part that went #1 in the US (no other Pink Floyd single came even close..."Money" was 13th and nothing else made the top-50).
EDIT: I listed to the whole song and wouldn't recommend it. Like most Pink Floyd I've heard it goes on forever. Here it is though:

1975 - Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour) 5:17
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

"Free Bird" is a song by the American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was first featured on the band's debut album (pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd) in 1973, and has been included on subsequent albums released by the band.
Released as a single in late 1974, "Free Bird" became the band's second Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1975, where it peaked at #19. A live version of the song also reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977, peaking at #38. Free Bird also achieved the #3 spot on Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.
It is used as a finale by Lynyrd Skynyrd during their live performances, and it is their longest song, often going well over 14 minutes when played live. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird (1975)

"Turn the Page" is a song originally released by Bob Seger in 1973 on his Back in '72 album. Seger's version never made the charts, but an evocative live performance on his 1976 Live Bullet album became a mainstay of album-oriented rock radio stations, and still gets significant airplay to this day on classic rock stations. He revealed at his concert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during his 2006 tour that he had written the song in a hotel room in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
"Turn the Page" is about the emotional and social ups and downs of a rock musician's life on the road, against a slow tempo and a mournful saxophone part.
