While we're discussing The Eagles, how about arguably their best song:

1976 - Hotel California - The Eagles

I was going to add that song, but got distracted. Thanks for adding it. Take It Easy is my favorite Eagles song.

The Eagles are a strange band. I have 7 of their songs on my iPod (that's not the record, but close) yet they don't have any songs that I think are that great. I mean, I like the 7 songs I have but all 7 of them just barely make the cut (Hotel California might be good enough to where it doesn't deserve this distinction). They don't really have any no-doubt, has to be on my iPod-type songs. CCR is fairly similar. I have 13! of their songs but probably at least 10 of them are the same thing - they're good enough, but not by a whole lot.

I mean, a song has to be pretty good to make my iPod, but not all songs on my iPod are created equal. I'll use a baseball analogy (this is a baseball message board after all). Ty Cobb and Jim Bunning are both in the Hall of Fame. While the HOF makes no distinction between the two, Ty Cobb and Jim Bunning are very different - Ty Cobb is one of the greatest HOFers while Jim Bunning is just a mediocre one.

That makes sense. I'd rather listen to CCR than the Eagles though. Both are constant in that they have a lot songs that are good to listen to, but neither have a great song. I should add some 70s CCR songs.

Yeah, they lack that great song. I was on CCRs website the other day for some reason and there was a poll asking what your favorite CCR song is. I had no idea what to vote for. I went with Who'll Stop the Rain but you could convince me to take about 8 other ones.

Back to the lack of a GREAT song, CCR had five, count 'em five #2 hits (Proud Mary/Born on the Bayou, Bad Moon Rising/Lodi, Travelin' Band/Who'll Stop the Rain, Green River/Commotion, Lookin' Out My Back Door/Long as I can See the Light) but not a single #1.

I just listed 10 songs, but they were all credited as two-sided singles. Only one of the songs is the one that actually went #2. It's pretty obvious as to which one it is in most of them.

Yeah, I would've gone with Up Around the Bend, myself. Not a single #1 song is surprising though.

Hey, I'm glad somebody appreciates it! Feel free to look in the other decades too, '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s.

This is bobrob2004's all-time favorite song:

1971 - American Pie - Don McLean

This video does a good job explaining the meaning of the song...

I like to point out that catbox is a liar. He's lied before and will lie again.

That is an interesting video though, especially with mute on!

I like America. They aren't my favorite, but they're still good enough to put on my iPod. I think my favorite song is "Sister Golden Hair". "Ventura Highway" is probably the worst of the bunch.
