Twins 9, Tigers 4
Comerica Park on Friday, May 23, 2008.
John T. Greilick / The Detroit News

Tigers starter Armando Galarraga pitches in the first inning. Galarraga
took the loss, dropping to 3-2 on the year. He is 0-2 vs. the Twins.

Twins starter Kevin Slowey delivers in the first inning. Slowey earned
his first victory of the season (1-4), pitching six innings, allowing
four hits and no runs.

Tigers catcher Pudge Rodriguez walks out to try and settle down starter
Armando Galarraga after he gave up two hits and a walk to load the
bases with no outs in the second inning. The Twins ended up scoring
three runs in the inning. Galarraga pitched six innings, allowing five
runs on seven hits. He also threw five strikeouts and five walks, and
gave up a solo home run to Twins batter Mike Lamb.

From left, young fans Kate Krueger of Grosse Pointe Farms, Kara French
of Grosse Pointe Farms and Allison Mobley of Grosse Pointe cheer the
Tigers during the fifth inning.

The Twins' Justin Morneau hits a double off Tigers starter Armando
Galarraga in the fifth inning. He would be driven in on a single by
Michael Cuddyer on the next play. Morneau hit two doubles and drove in
two runs.

Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco throws to first to get Twins batter Jason Kubel out in the fifth.

Twins second baseman Alexi Casilla doubles up sliding Tiger Edgar Renteria and Pudge Rodriguez in the fifth inning.

Twins batter Mike Lamb rounds the bases after hitting a solo homer in
the sixth inning off Tigers starter Armando Galarraga. Lamb also hit a
triple and walked twice.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire argues a point with home plate umpire Brian Knight.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland argues with a pair of umpires after getting thrown out.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland yells at home plate umpire Brian Knight
after being thrown out of the game before the seventh inning. Leyland
was thrown out for being too verbal in his displeasure over a 3-1 pitch
on Carlos Guillen being called a strike when he thought it was a ball.
The Tigers went on to lose 9-4 to the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park
on Friday, May 23, 2008.

Twins second baseman Alexi Casilla tags Tigers base runner Marcus
Thames, but drops the ball in the seventh inning. Thames didn't realize
Casilla had dropped the ball and he hit third base and kept going
toward the dugout.

Casilla caught up with Thames after dropping the ball, and tagged him a
second time to be sure. Thames did drive in Pudge Rodriguez on the play
in the Tigers four-run seventh inning.

Tigers pitcher Dontrelle Willis pitched one inning, allowing one earned
run. He gave up one hit and two walks. It was his first appearance as a
reliever with the Tigers since coming off the disabled list on May 21.

Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon watches the game from the dugout, after manager Jim Leyland was ejected.
