| Tigers' annual exhibition opener against Florida Southern. 02/26/2008
Tigers blast Florida Southern 17-4

Curtis Granderson watches a pop foul in the first inning of the spring training exhibition game against their traditional opener opponent, the Florida Southern College Moccasins in Marchant Stadium in Lakeland on Feb. 26, 2008. Catcher Pudge Rodriguez congratulates Placido Polanco, right, after Polanco hit the first Tigers home run of the spring on his first at bat in the first inning. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera blasts a two-run home run on his first at bat as a Detroit Tiger in the first inning. Cabrera watches the flight of his home run ball. Manager Jim Leyland congratulates Cabrera after his home run. Outfielder Jacque Jones, left, and center fielder Curtis Granderson leave the dugout to take the field for the first inning. Starter Todd Jones pitched a scoreless first inning against FSC. DH Brandon Inge bats during the second inning. He hit a homerun on his only plate appearance and was applauded. Third baseman Mike Hessman tags out FSC base runner Spencer Theisen on a stolen base attempt. Manager Jim Leyland shakes hands with the Florida Southern College Moccasins before their game. Colin Kaline, center, is the grandson of Tiger hall of famer Al Kaline. Three Kaline generations, from left, Al Kaline's son Michael, grandson and FSC infielder Colin and Al Kaline pose together before the game. Al Kaline gives his grandson a pat on the shoulder before the game. FSC pitching coach Jim Tyrrell greets Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander before the game. Tyrrell coached Verlander during his junior season at Old Dominion before Verlander was drafted. Tigers fan Desaree Letarte, 15, of Trout Lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, gets her fondest wish, an autograph from AL batting champ Magglio Ordonez before the start of the Tigers first spring training exhibition game, Tuesday. Letarte's orange sign says "Maggs, You're my Tiger." Tigers relief pitchers Joel Zumaya (left) and Jason Grilli, stand for the National Anthem. Neither played in the game. Florida Southern left fielder Adam Miller, a redshirt freshman from Grosse Pointe, makes a diving catch to steal a hit from Tigers catcher Nick Trzesniak in the sixth inning. Tigers non-roster shortstop Danny Worth doubles up Florida Southern baserunner Adam Miller, a red-shirt freshman from Grosse Pointe. Miller hit a single in his only plate appearance and he made a diving catch in left field. Tigers non-roster pitcher Chris Lambert pitched two-and-a-third innings, giving up two hits and a walk, but no runs and three strikeouts. Tigers manager Jim Leyland blows a bubble while watching the game from the home dugout. Tigers non-roster catcher Joe Bowen went one-for-two with a single at the plate. Non-roster pitcher Jeff Gerbe pitches in the seventh inning. Gerbe pitched two full innings, giving up one hit, no runs and striking out two FSC batters. Tigers outfielder Freddy Guzman runs out a triple in the sixth inning. Guzman went three-for-four at the plate. Tigers non-roster pitcher Freddy Dolsi throws in the ninth inning. He pitched one inning, giving up one hit and no runs. Tigers non-roster second baseman Scott Sizemore flips the ball to shortstop Danny Worth for a double play to end the game in the ninth inning. Sizemore was one of five Tigers to hit a homerun. |

| It would not surprise me that the weather effected our starters today compared to yesterday. It was closer to 80 yesterday. They better get used to colder conditions, it will not be exactly hot when the season starts up north! |
