Tigers' schedule infuriates Leyland
Tom Gage / The Detroit News

DETROIT -- Manager Jim Leyland saw it and didn't like it.

In Wednesday's Detroit News, it was reported the Tigers have had the worst All-Star break schedule of any major-league club the last three years.

The Tigers have had three-day breaks the past three years. They also began the second half on the road for two of those years. Every other team had four days off. Eight major-league clubs, including seven National League teams, have enjoyed four-day breaks all three years.

"That doesn't make any sense to me," Leyland said. "We should all be playing Thursday (two days after the All-Star Game) or nobody should be playing Thursday and you can quote me in big, bold print.

"I want everyone to write it and put it all over the airwaves. It's a joke. Silly is what it is. Not responsible. You get to the All-Star break and eight teams get four days every year and one team gets three days?"

Around the horn

Brandon Inge was recalled from his rehab assignment in Toledo. To make room on the roster, the Tigers designated catcher Dane Sardinha for assignment.

... It appears the Tigers are waiting for their first-round draft choice, right-hander Ryan Perry to pass his physical before announcing he has signed. The Tucson Citizen reported Perry has agreed to a $1.48 million signing bonus.

... Former Tiger Jair Jurrjens , now with the Braves, was named National League Rookie of the Month for June. Jurrjens, went 3-0 with a 1.63 ERA last month.
