Sore left side sends Fister to disabled list
By Zack Meisel / MLB.com | 05/30/12 3:27 PM ET

The Tigers placed right-hander Doug Fister on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a strain of his left side.

The move is retroactive to Tuesday. Detroit plans to recall southpaw Casey Crosby from Triple-A Toledo to make Friday's start against the Yankees.

This is Fister's second trip to the DL this season. He left a start on April 7 against Boston with a left rib cage muscle strain and missed a month.

Fister is winless in six starts this season, despite a 3.15 ERA. In 11 games (10 starts) with Detroit last year, he posted an 8-1 record and 1.79 ERA. The Tigers acquired Fister from the Mariners at last season's Trade Deadline.

In nine starts for the Mud Hens, Crosby went 4-2 with a 4.26 ERA. The Tigers selected the 23-year-old in the fifth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
