He goes and whines to the Boston Globe
He could have discussed with Leyland in Private
My worst fears are starting to happen
Sheff will produce just enough to be back next year
Same goes for guys like Rogers, Renteria and Rodney
And if they come back in 09, Tigers will lose 90 games |

Sheffield cracks top 25 on homer list
Slugger belts career homer No. 493 off Feldman in Texas

ARLINGTON -- Gary Sheffield's two-run homer Monday night against the Rangers wasn't simply a big shot on the scoreboard. With his 493rd career home run, he moved into a tie with good friend Fred McGriff and Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig on the all-time Major League list.
Texas left-hander Scott Feldman was shutting out the Tigers on three singles when Sheffield stepped to the plate in the seventh inning with Carlos Guillen on first. He drove a 2-2 pitch down the left-field line and inside the foul pole for his 13th home run of the season, putting the Tigers on the scoreboard and sparking a four-run inning that eventually pushed Detroit in front.
In the process, Sheffield moved in the top 25 on the career homers list by drawing even with McGriff, a fellow Tampa, Fla., native and a teammate with Sheffield on the 1993 Padres, as well as Gehrig. That in itself is a feat for Sheffield, who told reporters last week that matching McGriff was the most meaningful statistical milestone for him.
As he told the Detroit Free Press, passing McGriff would be "the only thing I care about that I've ever done."
McGriff and Gehrig are the last mileposts on the all-time list until the 500-homer mark. Sheffield has eight home runs in 28 games since the All-Star break, a pace that could allow him to threaten the mark by season's end.

I'm with you Saint. Kenny is still a very good pitcher, even after all these years. He puts to shame at least 1/2 the young pitchers out there!!! |
