I just watched an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents from season one titled "The Cheney Vase". Basically the episode is about a guy who lives with this elderly woman (Mrs. Cheney) whose grandfather gave her this spectacular vase. He notices a letter to her where a German guy offers her $45,000 for the vase. He wants to steal the vase and make the money. Anyways, that was all great and all but the best part was after the episode ended.
Hitchcock was talking and in front of him was a table full of copies of the vase. He said they were offering them to the viewers on a strictly first-come, first-serve basis. He said listen closely as this will not be repeated. To get your very own vase just send us a letter with your name and address (long pause) along with $45,000 cash. Do not send stamps or cash. They break for commercials and when they come back only one vase was left..."I told you those would go fast!"
1 episode isn't really enough to judge a show, but that episode was great.
The IMDb (which also does TV shows) says that episode ranks around the better third of the episodes in the show's history. I definitely want to see more of this!

I got a 4 disc DVD (Alfred Hitchcock - The Legend Begins...only $5) set at Wal-Mart of Alfred Hitchcock public domain movies and in addition to 18 pre-1940 (and therefore British) films (which is all but like 2 or 3 of them) it also has 2 episodes of the show. I'll watch the other episode later and unless it's utter garbage (which I can't imagine will be the case) I'll probably work on seeing this in addition to movies.
Hitchcock is my favorite filmmaker and miles ahead of whoever is next (Sergio Leone or Stanley Kubrick probably) so even though he directed very few episodes of this show I tend to think it's going to be great - it has his name right in the title!
It's too bad he had to die I mean he was 80, but still - if you look at his unfinished projects section on wikipedia some of those sound so good!
Here's one that sounds especially promising:
Quote:
The Blind Man: After the success of Psycho, Hitchcock re-teamed with Ernest Lehman for this original screenplay idea: A blind pianist, Jimmy Shearing (a role for James Stewart), regains his sight after receiving the eyes of a dead man. Watching a Wild West show at Disneyland with his family, Shearing would have visions of being shot and would come to realize that the dead man was in fact murdered and the image of the murderer is still imprinted on the retina of his new eyes. The story would end with a chase around the ocean liner RMS Queen Mary. Walt Disney purportedly barred Hitchcock from shooting at Disneyland after seeing Psycho. Stewart left the project, Lehman argued with Hitchcock, and the script was never shot.

I watched The Night the World Ended. It's a pretty good episode. I'd have watched the other one but my internet decided to act up during the first episode. I saw the first 22+ minutes without a problem but needed to waste 2 hours to see the last 2.5 minutes _________________ Coming soon: A better signature!
